Supporting Your Loved Ones

The dedicated workers at Villa Colombo Homes for the Aged, a small but powerful team, ensure residents maintain their independence and dignity.

Sadly, Villa Colombo doesn’t return this sentiment to its staff. Despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and soaring inflation, management refused to provide meaningful wage increases.

By 2022, workers couldn’t take it anymore.

Recognizing the need for change, these workers joined CUPE, Canada’s biggest and best union for health care workers.

Negotiations for a first collective agreement have dragged on for nearly three years.

The primary point of contention? Villa Colombo’s management is attempting to strip away sick days and benefit plans, which workers have relied on for over twenty years!

This punitive measure, a direct consequence of unionization, is not only shameful and shortsighted but also profoundly dangerous. Management’s decision will inevitably force our members to work while sick, endangering residents’ health.
